I know I am supposed to be inactive here, but sometimes an album comes along that you just think the world must know about….
I have been a fan of Redspencer since the single (and hilarious video) “Tell” in 2013. I have to say that, with the albums “Perks” and “Dreamworld” it has always been a bit hit and miss. The good songs were always outstanding and ever so memorable, but there were songs in which I felt there was too much of a penchant to “please” and comply to the dreampop standards of the day. With the latest release “Primal Urges” it seems like this has been abandoned completely, and the result is their best album to date! Literally every song is fabulous! So to sit here and write a review, going through it song by song will absolutely useless. The whole thing is great! David McMillan‘s voice sounds as likeable as a ever, there’s jangle galore, gorgeous chord-progressions, plenty of upbeat, sunny material, moody stuff, and for the old shoegazers some instant recognition in the track “Shifting” that takes us back to Chapterhouse‘s “Pearl“. Bliss!
What can I say? Go Buy! Go listen! When Real Estate become too predictable and formulaic, and you want more depth, you need this!!
