On September 12, Philly based dreampop duo The Morelings release the first single, “We Were,” from their debut LP “Same Century” set to drop September 26th on Mostly Venus Records (digitally) and Custom Made Music (vinyl and cassette).
To be honest, I think this video/song should have been used in the third and last series of Twin Peaks! It has got that cult/noir aura that befits Lynch’s work perfectly and has an ominous pounding dark beat and insane moog underpinning and contradicting the layers of haze and shimmer that we are wont from The Morelings: it creates a nice tension and gives the otherwise elusive, ethereal character a shot of unexpected depth and melodrama. The Blue Velvet-esque video, directed by Bob Sweeney (who has become a household name for The Morelings’ artwork) has the spectral band starring in an obscure nightclub in the late 60’s with Kedra posing as a chanteuse from times gone by, layered with flickering static interference and sparkles of blue bokeh effects.
