Softer Still – Forever Faces

Softer Still – Forever Faces

I wrote about indie dreampop band Softer Still before because I adore their blissful, hazy sound. So lucky me!: they soon have a follow up for their debut, self-titled EP, that was released in November 2016, and attracted attention from the NME, Clash, BBC Introducing and Steve Lamacq. The new EP “Visions of You” is going to be released on 28 Jul 2017 and the first single of that  (“Wishing Well”) saw the daylight in April this year. Today, June 9th,  the second single “Forever Faces” has emerged.

The new track has more electronic elements layered to their dreamy sound, giving them a slight 80’s/ sophistipop aura combined with that typical new dreampop/hybrid sound similar to bands like Wild Nothing, Day Wave, Small Black and Beach Fossils. On “Forever Faces” we find breezy synths reminiscent of Scritti Politti and the same sweet Prefab Sprout-esque ringing guitar sound and trademark cadence transition into the 2nd verse. Grant and Ellie’s vocals complement each other and interact perfectly here. Ellie does some terrific “Wendy Smith“-esque vocals and I am pleased to hear that her breathy, angelic voice is a bit more clear and prominent on the new EP.” Once again, excellent! Can’t wait to hear to whole thing!

Softer Still are:
Grant Williams (lead vocals/guitar),
Ellie O’Shea (backing vocals/bass),
Alexander Williams (guitar) and
Ollie Kitson (drums).

Softer Still‘s second EP ‘Visions Of You’ is set for release on 28th July, the band supported Razorlight in London on 7th June and you can catch them at several dates across the UK in August, details to be announce soon.
