Brooklyn’s 80’s sophistipop/dreampop project Treatment announce “Solitary” as the first single to the album “Pond Life” which will be coming out October 18th on Joe Black‘s label Rumore Bianco.
For the last 7 years, Treatment has been the audible vessel for musician and producer Harry Cubberly. After two quiet EP releases, Cubberly is now ready to put forth his first full length album. Cubberly: “the album has roots planted in everything from Sophistipop, R&B, New jack swing, and 70s soft rock”. Clocking in at 45:20 and 11 tracks, Cubberly’s latest long-player will be, according to Cubberly himself, his “densest and most genre-bending yet“.
Single “Solitary” overtly and clearly refers to legendary Prefab Sprout‘s finest works. In fact, it comes so spookily close, and is so cleverly forged, that you absolve the creator from”copying a sound”, but rather approve the capturing of something that, after all, is so dear and fleeting to most of us. “Solitary” is a captivating portrait of 80’s urban romanticism with a contemporary gloss, a welcoming band-aid on the gaping wound left by a lack of new material from the Sprouts themselves or similar sounding Brooklyn projects like Roman a Clef and Ice Choir. Looking forward to the album!
Treatment are playing Rubulad Sunday September 1st in Brooklyn with Red Sea, Cal Fish, and Dj Jennifer Vanilla and Luxe.
