If anything in song or visual format ever comes close to what is in my mind and heart, it is this! King Krule has released “Alone, Omen 3”, the final, full version of the song we got introduced to in his short movie “Hey World!“. It’s hard to top the bare fragility rendered in that sublime lo-fi piece of art, but I think he actually managed to put it down exactly the way it was intended. Every tiny bit of the production in the right place, delivering the right effect: the theme of loneliness and alienation in the midst of of the crowds and hectics “deep in the metropole“. The anonymity in a world in which we share everything, but are completely compartmentalised in the process. The harsh beauty of “Alone, Omen 3”, is both haunting and striking… there are hardly any words to describe it. I guess you either recognise/ feel it or you simply don’t.
The accompanying video was directed by Archy Marshall‘s friend Jocelyn Anquetil and features him standing amongst a crowd. In a press statement about the song and video, Archy says: “I felt like I had gotten out of a dark place, and I was on a high. I appreciated the depression… but I also liked how I felt better in the here and now.”
