Sunstack Jones – Glass Boat

Sunstack Jones – Glass Boat

Sunstack Jones were initially conceived as a songwriting project in 2011 and blossomed into a full fledged band over the course of three albums. Their fourth LP and first for Mai 68 records Golden Repair has been put on hold due to the ongoing pandemic, but we’ve gotten our first taste of it with the single “Glass Boat”. Recorded with The Verve’s Simon Jones behind the desk, their latest single has all the familiar Sunstack Jones trademarks of breezy folk, gentle dreampop and sighing vocals mixed with hints of shoegaze and psych rock. Sharply contrasting with the pastoral music are some rather sinister lyrics about turning a blind eye to bombs, bodies and blood in the newspaper print. The message implied there presumably is that ignorance is bliss, but what does that do to our conscience? While lyrically Sunstack Jones asks the deep questions on the morality of being ignorant in this day and age, musically “Glass Boat” is bliss on the ears.
