It’s been 4 years ago since we featured multi-instrumentalist bedroompop artist Maddie Jay, who has grown up and has just released her full-blown album “I Can Change Your Mind“: a work of beauty that defies genre. It is very clear that Maddie has moved away from rebellious indiepop into the more dreamy electronic pop that Billie Eilish, Magadalena Bay and Men I Trust make. What makes Maddie stand out however, is the minimalistic yet euphoric mood, the attention to details, intricate rhythms, and her sense of soul in her vocals. Everything is about subtlety and balance on this album! It’s about the joys we find in the small and the subliminal. It adds fairydust to the mundane.
Highlights on the album are single “11th Avenue“ which cannot fail to uplift, the 90’s inspired “Chemical” (yes with added drum & bass part!), the shimmery bubble-tea-pop of “Ekhaus Latta”, the sultry “Hot Suburban” and finally, the pick of the bunch, the sublime Carol King inspired “Every Little Thing” (with guest vocals from Chase Ceglie).
Why Maddie Jay hasn’t blown up yet is a mystery. She should definitely considering working with the brilliant Emmett Kai as they have a very similar vibe.
