Tokyo Tea Room – Half the Man

Since their early days crafting psych rock singles “Like A DrugTokyo Tea Room have since turned down the distortion and turned up the synths for their most recent releases and “Half the Man” follows that trend. The band leave ample sonic space on the verses for polished vocal harmonies that blend into chilly synthesizers and bookended by simple, yet effective guitar melodies. The song personifies the voice of one’s inner demons questioning your choices and wondering how things would be different if alternate paths were taken. The song’s themes of self doubt and anxieties are reflected in its icy atmosphere, but the laid back groove ultimately gives “Half the Man” a calm acceptance even if lyrically Tokyo Tea Room leave its questions open ended.
