“Rager” is the third single released this year ahead of this New York duo’s debut album What Happens After, out May 29th. Beginning life as an indie pop song, sometime in the recording process “Rager” warped into an energetic and chaotic sprint through singer Ali’s apocalyptic visions. With lyrics inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, the band imagines the end of the world with a seemingly casual acceptance set against a Sonic Youth style guitar assault. It’s certainly the most aggressive side of Laveda we’ve heard so far and has been only hinted at in earlier singles. Most importantly the band uses that noise in melodic ways that serve the song and lyrical themes all the while injecting some much needed danger and excitement back in indie rock in 2020.
