Laveda are a dreampop outfit that draw heavily from 90’s shoegaze and alternative rock. Starting off as a singer-songwriter bedroom project in Albany, NY by singer/guitarist Ali Genevich and Jake Brooks (guitar/vocals/synths), the project has now grown into a 4-piece band consisting of recently added members Joe Taurone (drums) and Dan Paoletti (bass/synths). Laveda’s excellent debut single “Dream. Sleep.“, released in February 2019, was premiered by Pitchfork Radio.
Today Laveda launches their new single entitled “Ghost“: the intro of “Ghost” gives us a glimpse of the song in its bare sketch-like-lofi state, creating a moment of suspense that perfectly juxtaposes the avalanche of swirling guitars and crushing drums we are plunged into straight after. The interplay between Ali and Jakes‘ vocals is poised and exquisite, and I personally would love to hear a bit more of it in the mix, instead of being slowly washed out by a wall of noise. That said, Laveda make quality shoegaze, and the band has a promising full album scheduled for release in early 2020, which will be pressed on a 12″ vinyl edition.
