Hospital – Dust

Formed in 2011, Hospital is the vision and project of talented lead vocalist Egor Berdnikov and assisted by band members, Andrey Tsvetkov (on lead guitar and backing vocals), Alexey Shorin on bass, and Vladimir Balovnev on drums. With 2 successful albums under their belt, having supported the Moscow legs of huge international tours (including Lana Del Rey, The Neighbourhood and The Kooks), Hospital are ready to release their 3rd album soon.

The song “Dust” is from their album “Uncommon Sense“, but Hospital decided to release it as a single. I normally shy away from generic indie-pop, as you know, but this song was too gorgeous to pass up. It has elements of dreampop, but it mainly brings us back to a sound I recall quite well from the late 80’s. The band themselves claim to be influenced by “bands such as New Order, Tears for Fears and INXS and The Cure”, but to me this song, in particular, brings back memories of bands like The Adventures and Climie Fisher and the Dream Academy, when it was fashionable to lace the post-rock synth-sound with folky details like a fiddle or mandoline here and there. Hospital approach this seasoned sound closely without staleness. Beautiful, rich and well-produced : this is great indiepop that brings back good memories …
